About DeKalb County Alabama

DeKalb County, Alabama, is truly one of the South’s greatest treasures. Those fortunate enough to already call this area home experience on a daily basis the perfect balance of small town living, proximity to large cities (Atlanta, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Huntsville all no more than two hours away), natural beauty, and southern charm.

Wills Valley (Valley Head, Fort Payne, Collinsville) is flanked to the west by Sand Mountain (Rainsville, Sylvania, Fyffe, Ider, Henagar) and to the easy by Lookout Mountain (parts of Fort Payne, Mentone). Lookout Mountain is home to DeSoto State Park where you can enjoy one of the tallest waterfalls this side of the Mississippi: DeSoto Falls. Little River, one of the nation’s cleanest rivers, provides the flow for DeSoto Falls. However, it also meanders and cuts through Little River Canyon National Preserve, also here in this great county. Go rafting, kayaking, fishing, or just sit and enjoy the gorgeous views.

In addition to our natural beauty, DeKalb County offers property taxes that are among the lowest in the nation, with equally low utility rates. Interstate 59 runs through the middle of the county, offering easy transportation to neighboring cities such as Chattanooga, Gadsden, and Birmingham. This transportation system and proximity to large markets affords the area with several large employers.

Schools are excellent in our area. Fort Payne residents attend Fort Payne City Schools, while the DeKalb County School System encompasses all other parts of the county.
